Applus IDIADA invest in PULSE Vehicle Pass-by Test System
Automotive engineering expert, Applus IDIADA has expanded its measurement capabilities with a full pass-by system from Brüel & Kjær, for testing both ground operation and in-vehicle (one-man) operation.
Applus IDIADA carries out many different tests from its Proving Ground in Spain. Some experiments are conducted from the ground station only, while others are controlled by the driver, whom carries out all the procedures using wireless communication - and synchronization - between the ground and the vehicle instruments.
Community noise regulations put stringent requirements on road vehicle exterior noise emission, with regulations applied to cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles and scooters.
Manufacturers have to certify that their vehicles comply with noise emission standards by measuring according to procedures defined by international standards, commonly known as Pass-by noise tests.
With the Pass-By System, Applus IDIADA is able to measure vehicle speed and position with Global Positioning System (GPS) or standard radar - depending on the type of test required - ensuring automotive manufacturer products meet these international standards.
Brüel & Kjær’s system covers all common pass-by test standards including: SAE J1470, Tyre coast down (ISO 13325 and TRIAS 20), ISO 362:1998 and 2007 and stationary measurements, such as ISO 5130 (exhaust noise). It can also be configured to cover other industry standards.
Single-person operation is supported by a range of hardware configurations including GPS and on-vehicle photocell, or radar and two sets of photocells. All configurations give accurate results independent of weather conditions.
