Amsterdam debut for rasteriser software upgrade
A field-installable software upgrade for the WFM/WVR 8000 series of waveform monitors and rasterisers from Tektronix adds new support for monitoring High Dynamic Range (HDR) and ITU-R Recommendation BT.2020 Wide Colour Gamut (WCG) formats. The upgrades will be demonstrated at the upcoming 2016 IBC exhibition in Amsterdam (September 9-13).
They assist camera operators, editors and colourists in easily and accurately capturing and reproducing highly realistic video image content that ultimately enhances consumers' viewing experience.
HDR/WCG formats are gaining new importance when it comes to acquiring high resolution 4K content.
However, it can be challenging to adjust gamma levels for correct processing of high fidelity signals throughout the broadcast chain.
A series of new graticules included with the HDR upgrade allow users to correctly set camera white points and adjust specular highlights to fully use the dynamic range of their content.
With the rapid advance of 4K and HDR technologies and increasing adoption rates across the industry, companies involved in the production and delivery of 4K content – from camera manufacturers to post-production houses to broadcasters – are investing in new 4K-related equipment.
Tektronix waveform monitors and rasteriaers enables 4K support via an easy, field-installable software upgrade, eliminating the need for customers to purchase costly hardware replacements in order to shoot, prepare and deliver 4K and HDR/WCG programming.
The platform uses a high-performance architecture fully capable of supporting the throughput requirements of 4K content.
The combination of capabilities, features, performance and upgradeability make these instruments ideal for meeting the 4K/HDR requirements of equipment manufacturers, content producers, post-production houses, broadcasters and other video service providers.
