The world’s first motorcycle with the sense of sight
Verge Motorcycles has enhanced its flagship TS Ultra model with state-of-the-art hardware and software, bringing advanced safety features to the world of motorcycling.
The latest version of the Verge TS Ultra now includes cameras and radars, leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhance rider safety. Additionally, new displays offer an improved, informative view for the rider.
The electric superbike manufacturer has equipped the TS Ultra with six cameras and high-resolution radars at both the front and rear. This advanced version replaces the earlier model, with customers who have pre-ordered receiving the upgraded bike. Last November, Verge introduced its Starmatter software and intelligence platform, comprising OTA updates, sensor technology, AI, and an HMI. This suite is now augmented with the newly launched Starmatter Vision, which integrates advanced machine vision. Verge takes pride in being the first motorcycle manufacturer to introduce such sophisticated safety features in motorcycling, adding to the bike's standard features like traction control and ABS brakes, and enhancing safety with a low centre of gravity.
Marko Lehtimäki, Verge's CTO, explained: “Verge is making riding even smarter and safer, for example by improving the rider’s ability to observe the environment and the functions of the bike with the help of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The TS Ultra’s new cameras combined with the software update announced today make it the world’s first motorcycle equipped with the sense of sight, advising the rider, and acting as a ‘whisperer’ while riding.”
Although autonomous driving has been a staple in cars for years, it's less feasible for motorcycles due to inherent challenges and safety concerns. Motorcycling also faces unique restrictions, such as reduced visibility and sound due to helmets. Verge's approach is to enhance both comfort and safety through technological innovation. The updated TS Ultra continuously analyses its surroundings, alerting the rider to potential hazards like approaching vehicles or lane changes.
The bike's display technology has also undergone a transformation. The new, larger tank-top display enhances usability, and the introduction of the Starmatter Dash display revolutionises rider interaction. This interface simplifies managing the bike's functions, provides hazard warnings, and displays the rear camera view when signalling a turn.
Mark Laukkanen, VP of User Experience at Verge Motorcycles, adds: “Verge is developing the world’s most advanced electric superbikes that focus on the riding experience. We do not want to compromise on that. Starmatter Dash provides a visual and intuitive interface, which gives the rider a clear real-time view of the bike’s features and status at a glance.”
Renewed Verge TS Ultra and Starmatter Vision can be seen for the first time at CES in Las Vegas January 9-12th, 2024.
