MEMS accelerometer integrated into wearable fitness device
Analog Devices reveal that the ADXL362 MEMS accelerometer has been integrated into Withings' Pulse activity tracker. Believed to be the industry’s lowest power MEMS accelerometer, the ADXL362 was selected for its high-performance, low power consumption for a longer battery life and enhanced user autonomy.
The ADXL362 is a 3-axis MEMS digital accelerometer which consumes less than 2µA at a 100Hz output data rate and 270nA when in slower sampling wake-up mode. This is a significantly lower power consumption than competing MEMS accelerometers. The accelerometer features an activity detection function to distinguish between different kinds of motion. It also prevents the sensor from turning the system on unnecessarily, thereby using additional battery life.
A pocket-sized tool designed to help users to achieve their personal health and fitness goals, the Pulse activity tracker offers a range of monitoring features including tracking the number of steps and the distance travelled, calculating the number of calories burned, measuring heart rate and detecting the quality of sleep.
