ON Semiconductor introduces high performance CMOS image sensor targeted at biometric and medical device applications
ON Semiconductor has introduced a new CMOS image sensor that offers the speed, resolution and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) performance required to address the needs of the growing number of high-end biometric applications such as fingerprint detection as well as several medical device designs. The MANO 9600 is a rolling shutter 9.6 megapixel (MP) (3840 x 2500 pixel) device that runs at 20 frames per second (fps) at full resolution.
The Available in both monochrome and color versions, the MANO 9600 achieves high frame rates in either single region of interest (ROI) or sub-sampled readout modes. Image data is read out through gain and offset amplifiers before being fed to an on-board 10-bit analog-to-digital-converter (ADC). The digital data is then transferred over four industry-standard low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) outputs; a version with a single 10-bit CMOS output is also available. An on-board sequencer, programmable over a serial peripheral interface (SPI), generates all internal timing for exposure control and also supports readout mode.
Numerous other on-chip features such as a charge pump, fixed pattern noise (FPN) correction and bias control for power supply regulation help simplify implementation of the MANO 9600 into customer applications and reduce overall component counts. Power consumption is 500 milliwatts (mW) at 20 fps, and 200 mW at 5 fps. Operating temperature range is 0 ºC to +70 ºC.
