Low Profile 3-Axis Gyroscope For MotionTracking Applications
InvenSense have introduced the world’s lowest profile and lowest power 3-axis MEMS gyroscope designed for Smartphones, Tablets, Smart TVs, and Gaming devices. The trend toward thinner devices in the consumer electronics market has created demand for components with a maximum height of 0.8mm to allow flexible board placement. Low profile components also offer the advantage of allowing for thicker batteries with extended operating time.
The ITG-3501, with an industry first 0.75mm height and lowest power consumption of only 5.9mW (3.3mA at 1.8V), leads the industry on both fronts to enable next-generation mobile devices. The 5th generation InvenSense MEMS gyroscope in ITG-3501, is the key factor in achieving the power, low profile and outstanding noise performance of only 0.1º/s/√Hz.
“Our patented fabrication process and innovative single-structure MEMS design enables us to integrate multiple sensors and reduce the size and profile in every category of Motion-Sensors. The combination of 17% lower profile and 44% smaller footprint compared to our previous generation ITG-3050 family also puts us firmly in the lead for 3-Axis gyroscopes,” said Ali Foughi, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at InvenSense. “According to Yole Développement, the total Gyroscope market is estimated to reach over 800 million units in 2014, and our ITG-3501 is positioned well to serve this large market.”
The ITG-3501 has options for full scale ranges of ±250dps, ±500dps, ±1000dps, and ±2,000dps making it suitable for a wide range of consumer electronics applications. Its unrivaled small size and unprecedented low power enables emerging applications such as Motion Interface, gesture control, and location-based services. The integrated Self-Test and offset temperature compensation deliver ease of integration and consistent performance. The gyroscope operates at a single nominal resonant frequency of 27 kHz making the ITG-3501 immune to interference from audible frequencies (20-20,000Hz) such as music, ringtones, crowds and white noise. Other industry-leading features include the 3x3x0.75mm plastic 16-pin QFN package, on-chip16-bit ADCs, built-in FIFO, programmable digital filters, a precision clock with 2% accuracy over -40°C to 85°C, an embedded temperature sensor, and programmable interrupts. Parts are available with I2C and high-speed 20 MHz read-capable SPI serial interfaces, along with a flexible VDD operating range of 1.71V to 3.6V.
The ITG-3501 is sampling to selected customers in Q2 2013.
