Low emission, diesel alternative for refrigerated urban distribution
Clean and sustainable refrigerated solutions for urban distribution operations from Frigoblock, a Transportation Solutions business of Ingersoll Rand, were showcased yesterday at the LoCITY roadshow in Twickenham, UK.
Visitors to the LoCITY’s event were able to see a low emission CNG powered truck fitted with an alternator driven, all electric and zero emission Frigoblock HK25 unit. This environmentally sustainable refrigerated vehicle with three multi temperature compartments has been operated by the Waitrose supermarket chain and combines the diesel alternative tractor engine technology with clean, zero emission transport refrigeration unit.
Pauli Johannesen, Vice President and General Manager for Truck, Trailer and Bus at Thermo King in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), stated: “A modern western city has approximately two days of perishable produce on its shelves and frequent deliveries are key to today’s supply chain. This is why we want to share knowledge on ways to reduce the emissions caused by all forms of heavy goods vehicles. Even more so, as many transporters don’t realise the solutions are already at hand.
“There are different alternatives to run the transport refrigeration unit in low- and ultra-low emission zones besides the diesel engine. We have invested heavily in developing hybrid, direct drive or vehicle powered solutions. CryoTech, a cryogenic solution from Thermo King, has been around for more than a decade and is a completely quiet and zero emission unit that uses liquid CO2.”
Thermo King and Frigoblock combine decades of experience in making zero-emission transportation a viable business operation and together offer the most comprehensive non-diesel product portfolio on the market to suit all transport refrigeration applications, from truck, trailer to home delivery vans. This portfolio of zero emission, all electric and hybrid solutions answers current and future demands in areas of sustainability, intelligence and connectivity and helps customers to meet the real-world operational, environmental and emissions demands.
Johannesen added: “We demonstrate our climate commitment by designing refrigerated transport solutions that can not only deliver measurable benefits to our clients and reduce their environmental footprint, but also contribute to improving the quality of life in the cities with low noise and low emission operations."
