Cost pressure in the photovoltaic industry is increasing. That’s why Yamaichi Electronics has developed another connector version for 4 to 6mm² cable cross-sections. They extend the successful Y-Sol4 F.A.T. product line. The Y-Sol4 F.A.T. has a spring clamping mechanism for simple clamping of stripped cable in the field. This permits quick, effective assembly without crimping.

Westermost Rough, and Nexans recently signed an agreement for the delivery and assembly of medium-voltage submarine cables for the Westermost Rough wind farm, which is to be built eight kilometres off the Holderness coast in Yorkshire.

The Siemens Drive Technologies Division has signed a cooperation agreement with Semikron International in order to intensify their future collaboration in power electronics for electric vehicles. Under the agreement Siemens has taken over the fully owned Semikron subsidiary VePOINT, which has 30 highly qualified employees based in Nuremberg. The two companies have agreed to keep the purchase price confidential.

Cree has announced the introduction of its second generation SiC MOSFET enabling systems to have higher efficiency and smaller size at cost parity with silicon-based solutions. These new 1200V MOSFETs deliver industry-leading power density and switching efficiency at half the cost per amp of Cree’s previous generation MOSFETs.

ABSOPULSE Electronics introduces the PFD 120 Series ultra-wide input range DC-DC converters. Texas Instruments introduce a smart bypass diode in a standard surface-mount package with 15-A current handling capability and the industry’s lowest power dissipation. In a typical application, each SM74611 lowers power dissipation by 80 percent and reduces the operating temperature inside the junction box by 50 degrees C when compared with a similar box using three conventional Schottky diodes.

Bentek Solar announces that it has begun shipping its new Breaker Universal Safety System. The new Bentek BUSS is designed to work with almost any inverter. It is highly configurable, allowing up to 14 1000VDC 100 percent rated circuit breakers that provide over current protection along with NEC 2011 compliant individual disconnects and zone current monitoring.
