N2Power's XL275 series of I2C-enabled 275W AC-DC converters is now available from Nu Horizons. N2Power's proprietary packaging technology gives this family its high efficiency (up to 90%) and small 3 x 5 footprint. The very low profile yields an industry-leading 12.22 watts per cubic inch power density. These high efficiency power supplies reduce wasted energy and require little forced air cooling, saving power and space in OEM applications such as industrial automation, telecommunications, gaming systems, security and surveillance systems, and network servers. The XL275 series features an I2C interface for digital power management; up to four XL275s can communicate over the same bus using the PMBus protocol. This interface allows routine control of the main outputs and the 12V fans.
The XL275 incorporates the same industry leading features as N2Power's XL125 and XL160 power supply families, including active power factor correction for reduced input power, built in or'ing diodes, active inrush current protection and remote on-off.

In contrast to traditional analogue-controlled power supplies, the XL275 uses a dedicated digital microcontroller to supervise the unit's operation. The microcontroller monitors DC voltage on the bulk capacitor (supplied by AC mains), output voltage, input voltage, auxiliary 12V output voltage, transformer temperature, ambient temperature and the fan tachometer. Unlike conventional analogue circuitry that can only provide timing accuracies in the range ±10-20%, the XL275 microcontroller can provide accuracies in the 1% range and does not suffer from stored charge memory. It responds to changing conditions 500 times each second with knowledge of the past, but without being slowed by its knowledge.
