Vishay Intertechnology has introduced a new high-speed optocoupler, the 25 MBd VOIH72A, which features a CMOS logic digital input and output interface for seamless integration into digital systems.

This single-channel device, suitable for industrial applications, boasts a low maximum pulse width distortion of 6 ns and a maximum supply current of 2 mA. It operates within a broad supply voltage range from 2.7 V to 5.5 V and can function at temperatures up to +110 °C.

The VOIH72A uses a digitally controlled input LED driver with a high-speed IRED, integrated with an optical photodiode IC detector in a compact SOIC 8 package. Its digital input and output interface eliminates the need for external driver stages and current limiting resistors, reducing system costs and allowing direct connection to microcontrollers, thereby simplifying designs.

Thanks to its rapid switching speeds and minimal pulse width distortion, the VOIH72A is well-suited for data communication, pulse width modulation, and ensuring high voltage safety in automation equipment, motor drives, and tools. The device features a minimum common mode transient immunity (CMTI) of 20 kV/μs, and its low supply current makes it ideal for galvanic noise isolation and breaking up ground loops while conserving power.

This RoHS-compliant device is pin-to-pin compatible with other solutions but offers a wider supply voltage and temperature range, making it an excellent replacement for both new and existing designs.
