AEG Power Solutions has announced a UL compliant version of its Protect 8 rectifier and battery charger, which is designed to ensure a reliable power supply in all types of demanding industrial applications, including oil and gas. The Protect 8 battery charger will be shown at AEG PS’ booth at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas (booth 2241).

It is the first UL compliant product in the Protect 8 range, which will be completed with a UL compliant version of the UPS system in the course of the year. The Protect 8 series is a family of Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), inverters and rectifiers, with a modular building block concept. Protect 8 has a long, proven track record in the oil and gas market round the world. Major companies in this sector are already using other products from the Protect 8 series, including BP, ExxonMobil, Dow Chemicals and Powell.

“With this UL version, AEG PS can now better serve our global customers and those operating in UL markets,” says John Ferriman, VP Oil & Gas, AEG Power Solutions. “A wider range of customers will now be able to take advantage of the proven reliability of our Protect 8 technology.”

The battery charger is designed in Germany, and engineered and assembled in the USA. Field acceptance tests will be run in Houston. It provides a reliable solution with high MTBF and low MTTR, and features built-in intelligent battery management and proven, microprocessor-controlled thryistor technology. Rated at 110VDC, four different models are available, with output currents from 100 to 400A.

The UL version of the Protect 8 rectifier is fully compliant with UL 1012/UL 1778 and with relevant IEEE/ANSI/NEMA standards.

“We are achieving here a significant step in implementing our strategy to fully and simply secure power for demanding industrial applications, everywhere our global customers need it, as well as opening new markets for our solutions,” comments Jeffrey Casper, CEO at AEG Power Solutions.
