TTI Europe stocks TDK’s advanced HVC50 high-voltage contactors
TTI, Inc. – Europe announced the addition of TDK’s HVC50 high-voltage contactors to its inventory.
The gas-filled ceramic contactors are engineered to manage continuous DC currents up to 600A and DC voltages as high as 1500V, making them essential for the rapid disconnection of lithium-ion batteries, achieving cut-off in under 30 milliseconds depending on the model. The HVC50's bi-directional capability makes it versatile, catering to both the charging and discharging of batteries and supporting motor drive systems with regenerative braking.
These UL-certified contactors have a compact footprint of 107.3 x 94.2 x 141.0mm and a weight of around 1,600g. Featuring a dual coil design and operating on a 24V working voltage, they consume a mere 5.5W in continuous duty. Their durability is demonstrated by a service lifespan of 1,500 operations at 450V/300A and 750 operations at 750V/300A.
Dermot Byrne, Industry Marketing Director for Transportation at TTI Europe, highlighted the contactors' significance: "These high-voltage contactors with high continuous current carrying capacity can be used in a wide range of applications where fast and reliable emergency disconnection of high DC voltages is required.
“Typically, they are used in electric vehicles for fast disconnection of the lithium-ion battery as well as in DC charging stations. More recently, they are being used in stationary energy storage systems (ESS), such as storage for photovoltaic or UPS systems.”
