Storage systems bring solar power to remote areas
Renewable energy company, Sun Harvester, is working hard in West Africa, where the company is supplying solar panel and battery storage systems to rural areas where the infrastructure is poor, or non-existent, leaving many rural communities without a reliable electricity supply.
The company is supplying AC power in off-grid hospitals, homes and businesses. The company’s Zhyphen system consists of solar panels, control circuitry and battery storage. Each is equipped with customised versions of Verotec’s standard 3U and 4U 19-inch rack cases in various depths for the inverters, control modules and field-replaceable battery modules. The company is also supplying five different custom 19-inch panels for AC connections, DC connections, inverters and DIN-rail-mounted equipment.
To design the components, Verotec and Sun Harvester design teams collaborated, and Verotec designed the custom versions from the initial written specification. Modified prototypes based on standard rack cases were initially produced and initial production quantities were subsequently manufactured.
The self-contained AC power units are modular and scalable in size, with versions available in sizes to satisfy the power requirements of a single house, a group of houses or commercial premises in developing countries.
