Rapid Electronics has expanded its range of ST linear ICs and discrete devices with the introduction of a brand new range of IGBTs, increased coverage of surface mount package options and additions to its MOSFET ranges.

ST has recently introduced three ranges of 1200V IGBTs with PowerMESH technology optimised for specific switching applications. The H series STGF3NC120HD, Rapid order code 47-0534, is designed for high frequency applications. Good switching performance and low voltage drop, and the

addition of a co-packaged damping diode make this device ideal for lamp ballasts, industrial power supplies, domestic appliances and for horizontal deflection in CRTs.

The S series STGD5NB120SZ (47-0536) has been optimised to achieve a minimum on-voltage drop for low frequency applications (<1kHz). The device is particularly suitable for pre-heating in electronic lamp ballast, as well as for inrush current limitation and lighting dimmers. The W series STGW30NC120HD (47-0538) has been designed for applications up to 130kHz it is optimised for high switching performance and low losses this device is particularly suitable for welding, PFC, lighting, induction heating and high frequency applications.

With the L6561D (Rapid code 82-3098) Rapid opens up the L6561 Power Factor Controller to the users of surface mount technology. Already available from Rapid in DIL-8 (82-3096), the L6561 Power Factor Correction IC controls power transistors to maximise real power from a power supply's input

current.

Also in mind of the expanding use of surface mount technology, Rapid has added L7805CD2T 47-3542, the D2PAK version of the 1A 5V fixed voltage regulator and STB9NK60ZT4 and STB14NK60ZT4, two 600V power MOSFETs (Rapid 47-0488, 47-0492). For AC switching applications, the range of ST isolated tab triacs has been expanded with the introduction of BTA06-600B, Rapid 47-3408. This Triac is

rated and 6A and 600V and is suitable for use in relays, heating controls and induction heating.
