Solutions for safe and smart power management

One of the highlights at the Mersen booth will be Surge-Trap K: an entirely new generation of surge protection device including specific solutions for both PV and BEES applications, not to mention EV charging infrastructures. Surge-Trap K is optimally designed for the challenges of the energy transition and is suitable for even the most demanding applications and standards (IEC/EN and UL). These SPDs (surge protection devices) are patented worldwide and exceed the market standard. They are produced in Europe, using sustainable processes.

The Mersen exhibit at Intersolar will also include DC PV junction boxes: these pre-installed generator junction boxes protect inverters from lightning related voltage surge. DC PV protection boxes are mounted parallel to the inverter and are available with different configurations. Designed for easy installation, they are ideal for use in 1,000 VDC roof installations.

Another highlight will be the new Mersen ProGrid NH fuse switch disconnector for electrical protection up to 800VAC / 910A. This modular system not only protects photovoltaic installations against surge currents – it also measures the current flow from the photovoltaic inverters to the grid connection. During the development of the ProGrid offer, Mersen has worked closely with leading grid operators in Germany and other European countries to support them with their day-to-day challenges. As a result, ProGrid SmartStation is ideally suited to enable smart low-voltage grid operators to efficiently adapt their distribution networks, gain flexibility, and efficiently balance new and increasing loads and power sources such as PV installations.

Overcurrent protection and monitoring solution in one

ProGrid fuse switch disconnectors feature a patented opening and switching mechanism to maximise user protection against electrical contact. Mersen offers different versions of the switches: Mersen ProGrid protects substations against overcurrent and short circuits. Mersen ProGrid Smart, by comparison, features an additional smart Modbus-RTU module, which can be mounted either on the top or bottom of the fuse switch disconnector. The smart module is equipped with current sensors and voltage inputs for optimal monitoring of the power flow. Up to 24 smart ProGrid switches can be connected in sequence through daisy-chaining. The third variant is the Mersen ProGrid SmartStation: This version can be combined with numerous additional sensors and modular measuring instruments to create a complete monitoring system for transformer stations and substations. Fuses boost the efficiency of energy storage systems In addition to solutions for protecting PV systems, the Mersen exhibit will also include ABAT and GBAT fuses for electrical energy storage (EES) systems. They increase the reliability and efficiency of storage systems against very small surge currents and DC fault currents up to 150kA.
