SMD offers alternative to press-in/through-hole technology

A high-current element for mounting on PCBs in SMD technology has been launched by Würth Elektronik ICS. The PowerOne SMD offers an alternative solution to regular press-in technology or through-hole technology (THT), with the SMD high-current elements processed with typical SMT lines and soldered in an infrared furnace or using the steam phase system.

With possible currents of up to 300A, the PowerOne SMD power elements are available in four variants, from M4 to M8. Soldered onto the PCB and fitting into the process chain of a SMD line, the maximum torque of PowerOne SMD is the same as the torque of the classic PowerOne elements. An M8 PowerOne SMD, for instance, has a maximum torque of 9 Nm. These features make the power elements suitable for fuses, cables on the PCB or as mounting elements.
