UNIPOWER announces the availability of a high voltage DC input option on two key series of front-ends and rectifiers. Both UNIPOWER’s Slimline760 and BLUEstreak models can now be specified for use in the latest telecom and datacentre applications designed around 400VDC distribution.
“High voltage DC distribution is now recognised by those implementing large scale datacenters and other power hungry installations as a very effective way of optimizing electrical power usage” says UNIPOWER’s Vice President of Marketing, Mike Henderson. “By utilizing less conversion steps, 400VDC distribution provides greater efficiency levels and lower operating costs and, as such, is an ideal way of getting power from the grid to the chip” he adds.

“Today’s announcement represents the first in a series of developments that will ensure that our industry leading hot-swap, high density power supply technology is available to customers who want to migrate to high voltage DC distribution”, Henderson concludes.

UNIPOWER’s Slimline760 Series 760W Front-Ends are 1U (1.57in) high and feature a power density of 17.5W/in³ with efficiency levels to 92%. Output voltages are 12VDC and 5VSB.

Operating temperature range is wide at -20ºC to +50ºC and each unit incorporates a variable speed cooling fan. N+N redundant operation is achieved with active load sharing and ORing protection circuitry. A Class A EMI filter is also standard.

Slimline 760 Front-Ends feature both analog and PMBus communications for status and control while front panel LED indicators and an audible alarm provide status or fault information for easy identification in any environment.

Measuring 12.68 x 2.15in x 1U (322 x 54.6 x 40mm), Slimline760 units meet all relevant safety standards including UL60950-1.

UNIPOWER’s BLUEstreak range of high-density, hot swappable modular rectifiers and front-ends can provide up to 2000W from a 1U high package at power densities as high as 24W/in³ and efficiency levels to 92% at 75% load. Output voltages range from 12 to 54.4VDC.

BLUEstreak modules use the I²C based PMBus to pass status and control data between a host system, management unit, and the module. All units feature automatic load sharing as well as an active ORing circuit. They have an operating temperature range of –40 to +70ºC managed by variable speed cooling fans. LEDs indicate power good and two standby outputs are available, +5V @ 1.8A and +12V @ 0.8A.
