ROHM has launched a new range of N-channel MOSFETs, including the RF9x120BKFRA, RQ3xxx0BxFRA, and RD3x0xxBKHRB models, designed for automotive applications requiring low ON-resistance.

These MOSFETs are ideal for use in motor systems for doors and seat positioning, as well as LED headlights. The initial offering consists of 10 models across three different package types, with plans to expand the product lineup in the future.

Increasing demand for efficient automotive electronics

The automotive industry is experiencing a rapid increase in electronic components due to growing demand for improved safety and convenience features. At the same time, there is a strong need for greater power efficiency to optimise both fuel and electricity consumption. In particular, MOSFETs used in automotive switching systems are required to offer lower ON-resistance, reducing energy loss and heat generation.

ROHM, already known for its low ON-resistance MOSFETs used in consumer and industrial devices, has now brought this expertise to the automotive sector. By leveraging advanced medium voltage processes, ROHM has developed a series of 10 N-channel MOSFETs that meet the strict reliability standards demanded by the automotive industry, all while maintaining low ON-resistance.

Features and benefits

Available in voltage ratings of 40, 60, and 100V, the new MOSFETs utilise a split-gate structure to reduce ON-resistance, enhancing operational efficiency in automotive applications. Each model is certified under the AEC-Q101 automotive reliability standard, ensuring high durability and performance.

The MOSFETs come in three package types, allowing users to select the most appropriate design based on their specific application needs:

DFN2020Y7LSAA (2.0mm × 2.0mm) and HSMT8AG (3.3mm × 3.3mm) are compact packages suitable for space-constrained systems like Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

TO-252 (DPAK, 6.6mm × 10.0mm) is a widely used package, ideal for power applications in automotive settings.

To further improve mounting reliability, ROHM has incorporated wettable flank technology in the DFN2020Y7LSAA package and gull-wing leads in the TO-252 package.

Future developments

ROHM is committed to continuing its development of medium-voltage N-channel MOSFETs, focusing on further miniaturisation and improved efficiency for automotive applications. Mass production of the DFN3333 (3.3mm × 3.3mm) and HPLF5060 (5.0mm × 6.0mm) packages is planned for October 2024. In addition, 80V products are scheduled for release in 2025, along with future P-channel MOSFET models.
