Now available from Nu Horizons Electronics, Astec/Artesyn’s SMT12F series is a new range of ultra-compact non-isolated point-of-load converters for space-critical applications. Devices in the new SMT12F Typhoon family of surface-mount converters have a footprint of just 13.5 by 16mm and require only five 22 microFarad ceramic output capacitors to realise a complete point-of-load (POL) solution.
Total board space required for the module and capacitors is only 300mm2, for easy co-location with the load. Extremely low internal power dissipation helps minimise thermal design concerns.

The series has an input voltage range of 2.97 to 5.5VDC and can output voltages between 0.9 and 3.3VDC, with a 12A current rating. Transient response capabilities extend up to 300A/microSecond.

The SMT12F is primarily intended for use on densely packed, high functionality boards and for powering advanced silicon including network and communication processors, DSPs, FPGAs and ASICs.
