Omron Electronic Components Europe has introduced the G7EB-E2 high-power PCB relay, an advanced version of the G7EB series.

This new variant boasts increased current carrying and switching capacity, offering a compact and cost-effective alternative to traditional contactors, while maintaining high reliability.

The G7EB-E2 is rated for continuous and switching currents of 150A, making it suitable for handling up to 100 kW at 3-phase 400 VAC, 200kW at 3-phase 800 VAC, and 7kW at 48 VDC. Target applications include photovoltaic (PV) inverters, electric vehicle (EV) chargers, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). Notably, the relay shares the same dimensions and weight as its predecessor, the G7EB-E, while delivering higher capacity. It features a wide contact gap of 3.6 mm and an exceptionally low contact resistance of just 5 mΩ.

In addition to current carrying, the G7EB-E2 can break 150A up to 100 times at 480VAC and 30 times at 800 VAC, making it well-suited for systems requiring an emergency stop function. This capability eliminates the need for additional breaking devices, facilitating the design of smaller and lighter products with greater power capacity. The relay is available in two coil voltage options: 12VDC and 24VDC.

Compared to similarly rated contactors, the G7EB-E2 is more compact and lightweight, allowing for space savings in PCB designs by reducing the need for extra power cables. This simplicity in design not only speeds up product manufacturing but also lowers component and unit costs, offering a more economical solution than traditional contactors.

In PV inverters, the G7EB-E2 can be employed to connect and disconnect the main circuit from the utility grid, with its 3.6 mm contact gap meeting IEC 62109 standards. For industrial UPS systems, its 50 to 100kVA outputs ensure safe operation by opening or closing the input and output of AC main circuits, enhancing both safety and reliability. The relay can also be used in 48 VDC battery and power supply systems to securely manage connections to the DC supply.
