Nexeon Recognised for Innovation

Nexeon – the Oxfordshire company developing high performance lithium-ion rechargeable batteries based on silicon – has been recognised by nomination in The Engineer Technology & Innovation Awards. The awards are given annually to recognise organisations demonstrating excellence in technology, innovation and collaboration.

The Nexeon story revolves around the discovery that by specially modifying the morphology of silicon, it can be deployed in place of carbon as the anode material in a Li-ion battery. This leads to tremendous potential for increased battery storage capacity and longer time between charges.

Nexeon’s nomination in the Energy category comes hot on the heels of two other accolades: a listing in the Global Cleantech 100, and inclusion in the European Cleantech Connect Top 15 list of ‘Ones to watch and most promising companies in Cleantech’.

“We are delighted at this latest recognition”, says Dr Bill Macklin, CTO at Nexeon. “Our technology is becoming increasingly important for the development of longer life batteries for consumer applications and for the faster adoption of electric vehicles.”

Nexeon has recently moved to new premises at Milton Park, and recently hosted an Open Day attended by a large group of VIPs including Yoshio Nishi, whose team at Sony developed the world’s first commercial Li-ion battery, and Nicola Blackwood MP.
