Load switch caters for notebooks with Type-C Power Delivery
Alpha and Omega Semiconductor introduces the AOZ1353 Type-C Power Delivery-compliant load switch with up to 28V over-voltage protection.
The protected smart load switch is designed for USB Type-C applications and is claimed to have industry-leading performance, up to 28V over-voltage protection, current limiting and true reverse blocking. According to the company, the combination of low quiescent current, low RDS(ON), robust ESD and protection features, the switch is asuitable power source switch for USB Type-C PD applications.
The current-limited load switch has up to 28V over-voltage protection with reverse current blocking capability for applications where internal circuitry requires protection from exposure to high voltages.
It offers low RDS(ON) (40mΩ) in a thermally enhanced 3.0 x 3.0mm DFN package. Target applications are notebooks, ultrabooks, desktops, monitors, dockings/dongles, and Thunderbolt/USB Type-C PD applications.
The load switch operates between 3.4 and 5.5V from V in and V out and is rated at 28V absolute maximum. The internal current limiting circuit protects the supply from large load currents. The back-to-back switch configuration blocks any leakage between V in and V out pins when the device is disabled or when the device is enabled, but V out is greater than Vin, adds the company. The switch is programmable with protection features including soft start, short-circuit protection, thermal protection, over-current and over-voltage protection.
Maximum quiescent current is 80µA, compared to 1500A for some competing devices, and shutdown current is just 1µA, compared with 3µA in competing devices cited by the company.
The AOZ1353 is immediately available in production quantities with a lead-time of 12 weeks.
