Fanless power supply delivers 600W with natural convection cooling

No fan, no noise and no vibrations, says Excelsys, as it launches a convection-cooled, modular power supply. The CoolX600 series delivers 600W without fan-assisted cooling.

The compact 8.5 x 4.5 x 1U package is the only fanless modular power supply on the market, claims the company. It has a five-year warranty.

Providing 600W output without requiring a fan or airflow results in higher system reliability, says the company, with typically 25% longer lifetime than competitors. The supply has conversion efficiencies of up to 94% and high input surge protection of 4KV Line to PE for operation in harsh environments. Reverse energy protection is without the use of external blocking diodes, and it is safety certified operation at altitudes of up to 5000m. A 24W, medically isolated, auxiliary supply is available as a standard feature, offering effectively another output for system intelligence, control, displays. Digital Communications is also available as an option.

The CX06S is available with safety certifications to IEC60950 2nd edition for industrial applications. The CX06M carries IEC60601-1 3rd edition and IEC60601-1-2 4th edition (EMC) for medical applications. For medical use, the supply has BF (Body Floating) rating, dual fusing, 2 x MOPP and less than 300µA leakage current. Other features include 4kV input surge immunity and the ability to withstand input voltages of up to 300V AC for use in remote locations and those subject to input voltage disturbances.

The CoolX600 can be populated with up to four CoolMods, providing up to four isolated DC outputs ranging from 2.5 to 58.0V. The CoolX Platform offers maximum flexibility with analogue and digital control. In addition, outputs can be configured to the required set point voltages and connected in parallel/series for higher output current/voltages. CoolPacs can be paralleled for higher power and N+1 redundancy applications. CoolX is user-field-configurable so customers can configure and reconfigure without voiding warranty or affecting safety. Mounting options include base, side and DIN rail alternatives.

Typical applications include clinical diagnostic equipment, medical lasers, dialysis equipment, radiological imaging, surgical robotics and clinical chemistry. Industrial applications included test and measurement, industrial machines, automation equipment, printing, telecommunications and audio equipment.
