DC/DC converters boast high 7A current for monitors & TVs
A pair of synchronous DC/DC buck converters has been launched for use in applications such as monitors, TVs and STBs. The AP65500 and AP65400, from Diodes Inc, deliver continuous load currents of 5A and 4A respectively, peaking at 7A at an efficiency as high as 96%.
The devices incorporate a light-load efficiency improvement algorithm that maintains the devices’ low-loss performance across a wide load range. Operating at a switching frequency of 340kHz, the converters' wide operating voltage range of 4.75V to 18V means the devices readily support 5V, 9V and 12V bus systems. Offering an adjustable output from 0.8V to 16V, both devices provide current mode control for POL power management, excellent line and load regulation and a fast response to transient loads.
Safeguarding downstream circuit components, the devices incorporate built-in protection features which include current limit and output over-voltage protection, under-voltage lockout and thermal shutdown. To prevent excessive in-rush current and output-voltage overshoot, the converters also provide a programmable soft-start function.
Simplifying board layout and minimising space requirements, the converters boast a compact SO-8EP packaging and minimal external support circuitry. Additionally, the devices have a high level of component integration including low RDS(ON) high- and low-side MOSFETs.
The AP65500 and AP65400 converters are priced at $0.75USD and $0.65USD respectively, each in 10k piece quantities.
