DC-DC converter designed for harsh environments offers wide input voltage range
XP Power announces availability of a new series of isolated dc-dc converters. The MQP120 range has been specifically designed for systems that need to be powered from both 12 VDC, 24/28 VDC electrical supplies. The unit is ideally suited to military equipment that might be deployed in both army and commercial vehicles, such as those used for homeland security initiatives. The converter accommodates a wide range of input voltage, from 9 to 40 VDC, and is rated to 120W. Five standard output options are available, giving voltages of 3.3, 5, 12, 15 and 24 VDC.
The Typical systems that might use the MQP120 series include communications, sensors and weapons systems on military platforms. An example system is that of an imaging sensor, it needs to be powered from a 28 VDC supply when used in a Humvee but from 12 VDC when used in a commercial SUV.
The MQP120 series can meet military standard, MIL-STD 461 for electro-magnetic immunity and MIL-STD 1275A-D for electrical immunity. An application note is available from XP Power that describes how a design engineer can achieve compliance against these specifications.
