COSEL announced the introduction of the PDA series of AC/DC power supplies, enhancing reliability for industrial applications. The PDA series employs a quasi-resonant topology with a minimal number of components to deliver an optimal price/performance ratio without compromising quality, resulting in enhanced reliability.

This series is entirely backwards compatible with the retiring PBA series, which has powered high volume applications globally for two decades. The initial offerings include the 15W PDA15F, the 30W PDA30F, and the 50W PDA50F, with additional models planned for release.

Designed for a broad spectrum of applications, the PDA series operates across a wide temperature range from -20 to +70°C and is UL/EN62368-1 certified. Suitable for worldwide use, it accommodates an input voltage range of 85VAC to 264VAC single phase, aligning with safety standards across a 100-240VAC (50/60Hz) input voltage range.

The 15W PDA15F, 30W PDA30F, and 50W PDA50F models offer three output voltages: 5V, 12V, and 24V, with respective output currents, adjustable via an internal potentiometer. Benefiting from an optimised quasi-resonant switching topology, the PDA series achieves an efficiency of up to 87.5% at 230VAC and full load, marking an efficiency gain of over five percentage points compared to the PBA series. This improvement reduces heat dissipation, thereby increasing system reliability.

The series features inrush current limiting, over-current protection with automatic recovery, and over-voltage protection. Despite lacking built-in active PFC, it complies with IEC61000-3-2 (Class A). The units are capable of operating in temperatures ranging from -20 to +70°C and can be mounted in any orientation, with potential derating based on ambient conditions.

The PDA series meets FCC-B, VCCI-B, CISPR11-B, CISPR32-B, EN55011-B, and EN55032-B standards in conducted emission tests. It offers input-to-output isolation of 3,000VAC, input-to-frame-ground isolation of 2,000VAC, and output-to-frame-ground isolation of 500VAC. Constructed with a galvanised sheet steel chassis, an optional cover ("N" option) is available.

The compact dimensions of the PDA series cater to applications where space is limited. The PDA15F measures 31×78×85mm and weighs a maximum of 180g without the cover, and 210g with the cover. The PDA30F measures 31×78×103mm, weighing up to 250g without the cover, and 280g with it. The PDA50F, at 31×82×120mm, weighs up to 330g without the cover, and 370g with it.

Fully compatible with the PBA series and mechanically interchangeable, the PDA series models are suited for diverse applications such as measurement and process control, machine monitoring, display devices, and various industrial equipment. They are RoHS and Low Voltage Directive compliant, bearing the CE and UKCA marks.
