XP Power’s latest compact desktop AC/DC power supply, PDM60, provides Class II system protection. Safety approvals include UL609501 and EN609501 for industrial and IT applications, and UL60601-1 and EN60601-1 for medical systems. With 4000 VAC isolation and low leakage current, the PDM60 is ideally suited to both medical and commercial use. Measuring just 135 x 65 x 41 mm (5.3 x 2.5 x 1.6 inches), it has an improved power density over previous products and is well matched to portable applications.
With Class II systems, a grounded AC input socket is not required for normal operation. Class I systems rely on both insulation and an earth connection as a means of protection. Normally, Class II products require increased printed circuit board (PCB) space to provide further insulation but the PDM60 has been engineered to be as compact as Class I products but with the advantage of Class II isolation. Increasingly, equipment that is used in a variety of operating situations, including the home, are specified as requiring a Class II power supply. Class II provides proper safety protection where the availability and integrity of an earth cannot be guaranteed.

The PDM60 is available in seven output voltage models, from 12V to 48V with corresponding output currents from 4.6A to 1.25A. Non-standard output voltages and connectors can also be accommodated to suit customer requirements. Output protection includes over-voltage, overload and short-circuit features. The power supply can operate at full power from -10 to 40 degrees C without de-rating and to 60 degrees with de-rating.
