Bourns has introduced two new high-current gas discharge tube (GDT) series to its high energy GDT range.

The new Bourns GDT225EX and GDT230E Series are designed to provide superior energy surge protection for both AC and DC power line applications. These GDTs meet stringent international standards, including IEC lightning protection zones, UL 1449, and IEC 61643-11, making them ideal for a wide range of applications that are frequently exposed to high current surges.

Both models set a new benchmark in surge protection for high-power systems. The GDT225EX Series, with a maximum surge rating of 120kA on an 8/20 μs waveform, is housed in a compact 20mm diameter flat design. The GDT230E Series, offering an even higher surge rating of 160 kA, is contained within a 30 mm diameter flat configuration. Both series provide DC breakdown voltage options ranging from 500V to 800V, ensuring dependable protection for compact AC power line setups while being compatible with common AC voltage configurations.

These new GDTs also offer enhanced flexibility for designers, allowing them to meet various voltage configuration needs in low voltage networks without sacrificing performance in surge protection. This makes the GDT225EX and GDT230E ideal solutions for both current and next-generation applications.

“Our customers look to Bourns for continued protection component innovation that is able to meet their evolving requirements. With the introduction of our GDT225EX and GDT230E Series, Bourns continues this commitment. These additions not only enhance our portfolio with exceptional surge protection capabilities in a compact design, but also match strategic emerging market application specifications for ever-higher power protection,” said David Chavarría, GDT/SPD Product Line Manager at Bourns.

By expanding its high-energy GDT family with these new series, Bourns continues to provide cutting-edge solutions that support the growing demand for advanced power protection systems.
