Automotive-qualified MOSFETs deliver 5.9mΩ RDS(on)
Based on the company’s most advanced COOLiRFET 40V trench technology, International Rectifier has announced two 40V automotive-qualified power MOSFETs. The AUIRFN8458 and AUIRFN8459 deliver benchmark on-state resistance (Rds(on)) for automotive applications such as pump motor control and automotive body control, which require high current performance from a compact device.
The first in a family of automotive-qualified 5x6mm dual PQFN power MOSFETs, the AUIRFN8459 provides 5.9mΩ Rds(on) per channel benchmark performance and the AUIRFN8458 offers Rds(on) of 10mΩ. The devices feature 50 and 43A high current carrying capability, respectively. Compared to an SO-8 package, a low thermal path to the PCB and significant thermal performance improvement offers higher efficiency, improved power density and overall system level cost savings.
Part of IR’s automotive quality initiative targeting zero defects, the MOSFETs are subject to dynamic and static part average testing, as well as 100% automated wafer level visual inspection. According to the AEC-Q101 qualification, the devices' Rds(on) will not change more than 20% after 1,000 temperature cycles of testing.
Jifeng Qin, Product Manager, Automotive MOSFETs, Automotive Products Business Unit, IR, commented: “The AUIRFN8459 and AUIRFN8458 40V 5x6mm dual PQFN COOLiRFET devices offer more than a 50% size reduction compared with conventional DPAK (TO-252) packages, ultra low package resistance and inductance and benchmark Rds(on), making them well suited for 12V conventional automotive applications that require higher efficiency and power density as well as space savings such as motor control.”
Available now, the AUIRFN8458 is priced from $0.48 each in 10,000 unit quantities while pricing for the AUIRFN8459 starts at $0.69 each in 10,000 unit quantities.
