Advanced digital power controller features PMBus interface
Utilising the company's high-resolution, high-speed ADC sensing technology and proprietary non-linear transfer functionality, the ADP1055 has been announced by Analog Devices. This advanced digital power controller with PMBus interface achieves high-bandwidth performance and transient response equivalent to traditional analog switching controllers.
The ADP1055 is a versatile digital controller with six PWM (pulse-width modulation) logic outputs that can be programmed using an easy-to-use graphic user interface via the PMBus interface. The device enables high-energy-efficiency topologies including full bridge with precision drive timing and control of secondary synchronous rectifiers. The controller’s GPIO (general-purpose I/O) can be configured for active clamp secondary energy efficient snubbing. Energy efficiency is further optimised using adaptive dead-time compensation to improve the efficiency over the load range. Programmable light-load-mode operation combined with low device power consumption (less than 150mW) reduces system low-power standby losses.
The ADP1055 provides accurate analog and digital fault signalling via the PMBus and configurable GPIO. The device also records first instance of fault and provides ‘black box’ fault history recording capability - ideal for analysing system failure mechanisms and reliability.
The ADP1055 digital power controller’s GUI (graphic user interface) enables customers to design and store settings in the high-reliability, internal EEPROM memory. The digital power controller is available in a 5x5mm 32-lead LFCSP package - an optimal size for high-density, high-frequency, compact, isolated DC/DC power modules or embedded designs for networking, communications and industrial applications operating from 100W and higher.
The ADP1055 advanced digital controller is complemented by ADI’s MOSFET drivers and iCoupler digital isolators in isolated power systems, and the ADP1047 and ADP1048 power factor correction digital controllers in AC/DC systems. These devices facilitate easy implementation of intelligent power management for greater energy efficiency.
Operating over a temperature range from -40 to +125°C, the ADP1055 advanced digital power controller is available now, priced at $4.60 (USD) each in 1,000 unit quantities.
