The devices are able to provide up to 400 mA output current with an input voltage ranging from 1.8 V to 5.5 V.

This converter series has been specifically designed for applications where high efficiency, PCB size and thickness are critical factors such as battery-powered and energy-harvesting applications, as it ensures a highly efficient conversion regardless of the power source.

These miniaturised step-down regulators draw a quiescent current of just 500 nA, this new generation of buck converters requires a minimal set of external components thanks to the integrated power switch, synchronous rectifier, and integrated compensation network.

The high efficiency and small PCB size and thickness requirement for the devices make them ideal for power conversion solutions in wearable applications and fitness accessories, personal tracking monitors, smart watches, sports bands, energy harvesting, wireless sensors, industrial sensors, portable low power devices, single cell Li-Ion battery applications and Bluetooth low energy and Zigbee applications.

The converters are supported by a range of evaluation boards, these boards allow developers to experiment with the various features of these nano-quiescent synchronous step-down converters and are available with different output voltage options, helping developers to greatly reduce the time to market.

The converters are also supported within the STMicroelectronics eDesignSuite. In addition STMicroelectronics have integrated eDSim, a fast and powerful electrical simulation software to speed up SMPS designs into eDesignSuite.

This allows designers to develop switched-mode power supplies or analogue circuits with eDesignSuite, get a quick preview with fully annotated schematic and BOM, and then export the project to eDSim for fast and accurate electrical simulations and reliable design validation.
