Winged Low-Profile High-Current Inductor in 4040 Case Size

Vishay has announced what it says is the industry’s first winged low-profile, high-current inductor in the 4040 case size. Designed to be placed on a cut-out PCB, the IHLW-4040CF-11 offers designers a high-current solution using a larger part, without exceeding a profile of 1.2 mm on either side of the PC board.

With a frequency range up to 1.0 MHz, the new IHLP inductor serves as a high-performing, space- and power-saving solution for voltage regulator module (VRM) and dc-to-dc converter applications in end products including next-generation mobile devices; notebooks, desktop computers, servers, graphic cards, portable gaming devices, personal navigation systems, personal multimedia devices, and automotive systems; low-profile, high-current power supplies and point of load (POL) converters; distributed power systems; and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).

The IHLW-4040CF-11 offers an inductance range from 0.10 µH to 2.2 microhenries, a saturation current range from 14.0 A up to 48 A, heat rating current from 16 A to 46 A, typical DCR from 0.64 milliohms to 6.83 milliohms, and maximum DCR from 0.70 milliohms to 7.21 milliohms.

The new inductor handles high transient current spikes without hard saturation. Packaged in an RoHS-compliant, 100 % lead (Pb)-free shielded, composite construction that reduces buzz noise to ultra-low levels, the new device is specified for an operating temperature range of 55 deg. C to +125 deg. C, with high resistance to thermal shock, moisture, mechanical shock, and vibration.
