Industrial switches enable flexible Ethernet installations
A series of of managed industrial Ethernet switches, the Rail Switch Power Expandable (RSPE) family, has been introduced by Belden. These modular switches facilitate the creation of flexible Ethernet installations in which the network design can be quickly adapted to manage changing application needs.
Belden has stated that the high reliability of the switches guarantees 100% availability of data communication, ensuring optimum productivity for machines and systems. The switches feature eight Fast Ethernet twisted pair ports and four combo ports that support Fast and Gigabit Ethernet standards. Conforming to multiple redundancy standards (High-availability Seamless Redundancy and Parallel Redundancy Protocol), the RSPE switches can be extended to provide up to 28 ports by adding two media modules. This is also aided by precise time synchronisation in accordance with IEEE 1588 v2.
The RSPE switches are certified to provide highly efficient solutions even under harsh environmental conditions in a range of application scenarios. They are suited for the energy sector, in which they enable highly available and cost-effective applications, from power transmission and distribution to electricity generation from renewable energy sources. The managed industrial Ethernet switches are also suitable for use in industries, such as transportation, road and rail traffic, cable cars, ports and airports.
Improving security to the network, comprehensive management features, numerous redundancy methods, diagnostic features and filtering features are provided. The RSPE Ethernet switches are available in various combinations of copper or fibre ports (plus PoE and PoE+). Operating over an extended operating temperature range from -40 to +70°C, the switches feature high vibration resistance and broad immunity to electrostatic discharges.
Jürgen Schmid, Product Manager, Belden, commented: “In today’s fast-changing industrial environments, flexibility is key. With our Rail Switch Power Expandable switches, media modules can be added to basic switch devices in virtually no time at all - a practical and cost-effective solution.”
