C&K Develops 7-Way Compact Scroll Wheel Switches for Consumer and Navigation Applications
C&K Components has developed a new series of consumer and navigation scroll switches capable of three or seven functions. Available in two versions, the TSW A Series is a 3-way scroll wheel switch that provides one central select and a 2-way 360º rotation. The TSW B Series is a 7-way switch featuring one central select and a 2-way 360º rotation with additional four tactile directions on the outside ring.
The TSW Series scroll wheel switches feature push and rotary functions with 24 detents at 12 pulses in a compact and slim design, freeing up space on the PC board within miniature consumer electronics devices.
The compact consumer and navigation scroll wheel switches offer through-hole termination, decoration options and easy installation, making them ideal for remote controls, desk phones, keyboards, printers, entertainment systems and white goods.
“Consumer electronics applications consistently demand more versatile, flexible and compact solutions to meet miniaturization and price requirements,” said Jerome Smolinski, senior product manager of C&K Components. “The 3- and 7-way TSW Series consumer and navigation scrolling wheel switches feature both rotary and select functions in one component, providing design engineers with a variety of options to meet their application needs. In addition, the fully decorated face surface option provides OEMs with a one-stop solution.”
The TSW A Series has a 21.0cm diameter and a maximum operating force rated at 60g-cm for rotary actuation and 220g to 50g for push actuation.
The TSW B Series has 34.4cm diameter and a rotary actuating force of 50g-cm with a maximum push actuating force of 300g. This switch also comes with the cosmetic button already assembled.
The TSW Series switches have an electrical life of 1,000,000 cycles with a maximum contact resistance of 300mΩ. The switch’s electrical rating is 1mA at 10VDC and operating temperature ranges from -0ºC to +40ºC.
