Nisshinbo Micro Devices Inc. has announced the launch of its NP4271 series, a Low-Dropout (LDO) Regulator designed to improve the reliability and functional safety of automotive electronic control units (ECUs) and industrial equipment.

The NP4271 series integrates both a watchdog timer and window reset function, making it a highly reliable power management solution.

Operating within a wide voltage range of 4.0 to 40V, the NP4271 series is engineered to perform in demanding environments. Its output voltage accuracy of ±2.0% across a broad temperature range from -40 to 125°C ensures stable and reliable performance, even in extreme conditions. The series is available with output voltage options of 3.3 or 5.0V, providing flexibility for different system requirements.

A key feature of the NP4271 is its integrated watchdog timer (WDT), which enhances system safety by monitoring the microcontroller unit's (MCU) output pulses. If these pulses are absent for a specified period, the WDT automatically triggers a reset, addressing potential software lock-ups. The series also includes a window voltage detector that quickly detects positive and negative deviations in the MCU’s power supply, allowing for immediate corrective actions. This integrated solution simplifies power supply system designs by consolidating multiple monitoring functions into a single chip.

Additionally, the NP4271 series boasts superior transient response characteristics, outperforming comparable products even when smaller output capacitors are used. This makes it ideal for applications where power lines frequently fluctuate due to the switching operations of other components. Its ability to maintain stable output with minimal voltage variation makes it particularly suited for automotive and industrial environments where consistent performance is critical.

The NP4271 series is AEC-Q100 Grade 1 certified, ensuring high performance, safety, and reliability in challenging applications. Housed in a compact HSOP-8-AC package, this power management solution provides an efficient, space-saving option for design engineers. The NP4271 series is now available for purchase.
