As LED lighting is installed around the world, the need for superior circuit protection to ensure LED luminaires return their promised return on investment has grown. Littelfuse LED lighting surge protection modules are designed specifically to meet the needs of outdoor and commercial LED lighting, with enhanced protection features to guard against catastrophic failure.

With inadequate protection, or no protection at all, a luminaire subjected to excessive levels of surge current would be damaged, requiring either repair or replacement, and reducing or eliminating the value proposition of LED lighting.

Littelfuse’s LSP series modules are available with a max surge capability of 20,000A, protecting luminaires under these extreme surge conditions.

Traditional surge protection devices, or SPDs, often lack thermal protections. When a SPD reaches its end of life or is exposed to continuous AC over-voltage, MOVs can overheat and begin to smoke, burn, and endanger the luminaire.

Littelfuse’s LSP series modules feature thermal disconnect that opens to disconnect AC power, preventing overheating and turning off the luminaire to indicate that maintenance is needed.

Littelfuse’s LSP series modules are available in both series and parallel configurations. In the series configuration, the luminaire is turned off when it reaches end of life, providing a clear status indication and protecting the luminaire from further surges

SPDs connected in parallel allow the luminaire to continue operating after the SPD has reached its end of life, which can be desirable in some applications, but requires continual inspections of the SPD to determine replacement needs and could leave the luminaire unprotected until the SPD is in place.

Littelfuse’s LSP series modules offer an LED indicator to clearly show the status of the module. For outdoor applications, it is necessary for the SPD to continue operating in the presence of moisture.
