Indonesia’s first LED lit toll road
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors’ Golden DRAGON Plus LEDs are chosen by PT Tricomm’s Solarens lighting solutions, deployed in the 9.7km long West 1 section of Jakarta Outer Ring Road. The LEDs, installed in 307 road lamps and 126 toll gate station lamps along toll road sections and 8 toll gate stations, will achieve 65% energy saving and create uniform and comfortable lighting for drivers.
“UConcerns over climate change and the desire to use energy resources more efficiently drive countries around the world to adopt innovative and sustainable approaches in their infrastructure development. Indonesia is no exception. LED lighting is a natural fit for the country because it provides extreme energy efficiency and remarkable lifetime.
In this project, the LED-based luminaire is anticipated to achieve 65% power saving compared to 150W high pressure sodium (HPS) lamps, an important step for this fast developing country. Furthermore, the Golden DRAGON Plus LED has a lifetime of up to 50,000 hours. It tremendously cuts down service hours and maintenance cost, making the LED lamps ideal for this busy road.
According to Strategies Unlimited’s study LED Lighting Fixtures, LED lamps will be the sole replacement for traditional lamps by 2012. And from 2008 to 2012, the market for LED lighting will have a compound annual growth rate of 28%.
“This project, with installation of LED road and toll gate lighting, has set a good showcase for the future of LED lighting in Indonesia,” said Kai-Chong Cheng, Marketing Director of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Asia Ltd. “We are extremely pleased to be the first LED manufacturer to help light up the toll road here. We envisage that with this good application example, the adoption of LED lighting will accelerate in the country.”
