Point Grey has announced the addition of 3.2 and 5MP CMOS models to its Chameleon3 USB3 Vision and Blackfly GigE Vision camera lines. The latest Chameleon3 and Blackfly models feature Sony’s 2nd gen Pregius sensors and set a benchmark for global shutter CMOS by reducing pixel size and lowering temporal dark noise.

The smaller 3.45µm pixel size allows more pixels to be packed into a smaller optical format, allowing a wider variety of more compact and lower-cost lenses to be used. The Sony Pregius IMX264 and IMX265 sensors offer the same impressive imaging performance as the higher-speed IMX250 and IMX252, but at lower frame rate and lower cost.

"We’re excited about the rapid expansion of our global shutter CMOS camera lines,” says Michael Gibbons, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Point Grey. “Point Grey is currently shipping a total of 20 different camera models with Sony Pregius technology offering customers a choice of form factor, digital interface, resolution, frame rate and price point.”

The Chameleon3 CM3-U3-31S4 and CM3-U3-50S5 as well as the Blackfly BFLY-PGE-31S4 and BFLY-PGE-50S5 models are available to order now from Point Grey, its network of distributors, and the online store (for North American, EU and Australian customers).
