Dp chipset enables ISPs to meet network performance goals

Providing Telcos and DSL ISPs with a solution to address competitive offerings from cable providers, a Fibre to the Distribution Point (FTTdp) chipset has been introduced by Lantiq. The VINAX dp chipset meets network performance goals set by government broadband initiatives. Between a customer premise gateway and the fibre network dp, the chipset provides aggregated 300Mb/s over VDSL2 at distances up to 200m.

To operate in industrial temperature ranges, the dp chipset is based on Lantiq’s carrier-grade VDSL2 chips which were developed for line card applications.The entire system, including VDSL, GPON, and DC/DC converter, consumes less than 6W, allowing it to be installed in outdoor boxes with passive cooling.

For many broadband access installations, FTTdp is a cost-effective alternative to Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network topologies. FTTH requires the fibre to be deployed all the way into a customer’s premise, whereas FTTdp can be line-powered from the customer premise. The FTTdp unit can be placed in carrier managed locations, while on the subscriber end, the standard VDSL CPE and power feeder is self-installed.

For field trials of it's FTTdp solution, Lantiq partnered with several equipment manufacturers including Alcatel Lucent, ZTE, T&W and Aethra Telecommunications.
