Stadium IGT offers a range of single LED illuminated capacitive switch modules that are proving to be critical components to medical equipment manufacturers. Earlier this year Stadium IGT were approached by a leading medical OEM to provide a HMI solution for a new high-performance acute foetal and maternal intrapartum monitoring system.

The end product uses the most advanced technology available to acquire accurate data to support in clinical decisions. In the fast-paced environment of a labour ward, the monitor must also be easy to use and provide data that is quick to read.

Stadium IGT’s single illuminated capacitive switch module was selected for this very advanced medical system as it provides an on/off pulse with bright light indication to show that the product has powered up. The slim design allowed the modules to be mounted behind the control panel ensuring an aesthetically pleasing display that can withstand the rigorous cleaning required for clinical environments.

It was chosen over competitor’s products as it provided greater touch sensitivity with no-miss operation and the thin-film backlighting created better light shaping and light spread of from the LED. The modules are very simple to connect via a sticky pad mounting and a simple plug in FFC cable and can be customised to fit space limitations of the end the product. The other deciding factors included its competitive pricing and fast lead-times.

Terry Moss, Sales Director, Stadium IGT, comments: “Our range of single illuminated capacitive switches offers OEMs the opportunity to try our switches and patented thin film LED backlighting when developing new products and also provides a complete HMI solution for products requiring a small number of control functions. The modules can be bought in low volumes as standard through our distribution partner, RS, or we can design and manufacture customised modules on volume to meet specific customer requirements.”
