Ultra-Low Glitch, 16-Bit DAC from Texas Instruments
Texas Instruments has introduced the first product in a new series of precision DACs with an integrated precision reference. The DAC8560 is a 16-bit, single-channel DAC featuring ultra-low glitch (0.15nV-s), ultra-low-power (1.5mW at 2.7V) and an internal reference with 2ppm/C temperature drift and +/-0.004 percent initial accuracy. The combination of a precision DAC and outstanding reference performance makes the DAC8560 a flexible, easy-to-use solution for closed-loop control applications found in portable instrumentation, optical networking, industrial process control, machine and motion control, and data acquisition systems.
The DAC8560 builds upon TI's recently released DAC855x series offering breakthrough performance while minimizing code-to-code output transient voltages (glitch). The low-glitch performance solves the common DAC problem of unwanted transient voltages which cause ringing in closed-loop systems and create harmonic distortion during waveform generation.
The device also incorporates a power-on-reset circuit that ensures the DAC output powers up at zero-scale and remains there until a valid code is written to the device. A power-down feature, accessed over the serial interface, reduces the current consumption to 1.2uA at 5V.
Other features include 4LSB typical integral nonlinearity (INL), 0.5LSB typical differential nonlinearity (DNL), 8us typical settling time to +/-0.003 percent full-scale range and 16-bit monotonicity over
temperature range.
The DAC8560 is well-suited to work with TI's MSP430 ultra-low-power microcontrollers, TMS320C2000T digital signal controllers and high-performance analog portfolio to provide a complete system solution.
The DAC8560 is available now in an MSOP-8 package from TI and its authorized distributors. Pricing starts at $3.50 in 1,000-piece quantities (suggested resale pricing). Evaluation modules (EVMs) are
also available. The new 16-bit value performance offering also includes the DAC8550, DAC8551, DAC8552, DAC8554 and DAC8555 products.
