Best-in-Class 100Gbps Multiplexer from Semtech for Ultra-Long Haul Applications
Semtech has today announced the release of the SMI10022, its multiplexer device supporting 100 Gbps ultra-long-haul network applications. The SMI10022 is specifically designed to support soft-decision forward error correction, which enables a significant improvement in optical transmission reach for ultra-long-haul and submarine optical links.
Desi“DP-QPSK is the industry’s technology of choice for 100G long-haul applications,” said Sameer Vuyyuru, Vice President and General Manager for Semtech’s Advanced Communications Product Group. “While early systems were largely based on hard-decision FEC, newer designs are leveraging the SMI10022’s ability to support the data rates required for soft-decision FEC, which enables increased transmission reach. Leveraging our proven high-speed design architecture, we continue to offer the industry’s most complete high performance product solutions for demanding 40 and 100 Gbps long-haul applications.”
“The service provider’s roll-out is simplified with coherent technologies featuring electronic dispersion compensation. The technology was proven at 40 Gbps and is now ramping at 100 Gbps. Service providers are upgrading their core networks to 100 Gbps to support the on-going increase in Internet traffic,” said Daryl Inniss, Vice President and Practice Leader, Ovum. “We forecast long-haul ports to grow at a compounded annual growth rate more than 70 percent during the next five-year period.”
The SMI10022 is a 4x 32G output multiplexer with on-chip clock multiplier unit and integrated precoder. The input data interface is user selectable 20-lane or 10-lane and compatible with CEI-6G/11G-MR. The device offers features such as data-to-data skew adjust, full- and half-rate high speed CML clock outputs and an on chip PRWS error checker and pattern generator.
While these products offer designers the benefit of significant board space savings, their small size and RoHS & WEEE compliance also contributes to energy conservation and hazardous waste reduction.
Engineering samples of the SMI10022 are available now to limited customers and the device is scheduled to enter volume production by end of August 2012. Semtech offers comprehensive design assistance, including field- and factory-based support.
