24-bit ADC provides the highest resolution at < 1mW for precision sensor applications
Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX11210, a single-channel, 24-bit ADC that offers an industry-leading 23.9-bit effective resolution (ENOB) at < 300A. The higher ENOB eliminates power-hungry gain stages while achieving the highest precision possible from the sensor. This allows the MAX11210 to meet the tight power budget (500A, max) for 4–20mA loop sensors, an application that puts a premium on power dissipation and high ENOB. The MAX11210 is well suited for portable instrumentation, temperature sensors, and other precision sensor applications demanding low power consumption.
The The MAX11210 offers a software-programmable oversampling ratio for output rates up to 120sps with zero latency and up to 480sps in continuous-conversion mode. Simplifying device and system calibration, the ADC automatically self-calibrates for device offset and gain. In addition, the ADC offers user-programmable offset and gain registers for enhanced system-level calibration where needed. Other integrated features include programmable gain from 1 to 16 and 100dB (min) 50Hz or 60Hz rejection.
The MAX11210 is offered in a small 16-pin QSOP package and is fully specified over the -40oC to +85oC extended temperature range. Production quantities are available now. Pricing starts at $1.65 (1000-up, FOB USA).
Complementing the MAX11210, Maxim offers a complete family of 24-, 20-, 18-, and 16-bit ADCs in 16-pin QSOP or tiny 10-pin MAX® packages. The MAX packages feature a simple 2-wire serial interface, with a clock input and fixed data outputs of 120sps or 13.75sps. Evaluation (EV) kits are available for select ADCs—refer to the accompanying table for additional information .
