Demand for higher resolution professional audio/video (Pro-AV) equipment is generating a need for analog multiplexers and crosspoint switches that deliver high-speed, low power consumption and compact footprint. To address these challenges, Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) expanded its industry‘s broadest portfolio of high-speed analog switch ICs with the introduction of the ADV32xx family of 16 × 16 buffered crosspoint switches and buffered multiplexers for Pro-AV switching and distribution system applications such as video conferencing and digital signage.

Compared to the nearest 16 × 16 crosspoint switch alternative, the ADV3226 and ADV3227 deliver an unmatched combination of 50 percent less power at 1.2 W (watts) from a ±5 V (volt) supply and a 55 percent increase in speed at 700 MHz (megahertz) − the industry’s highest bandwidth. The new family of multiplexers (muxes) −the 2 to 1 ADV3219 and ADV3220 and the 4 to 1 ADV3221 and ADV3222 − also offer the industry’s highest bandwidth at 650 MHz, enabling designers to experience a 10 percent and 30 percent increase in speed, respectively, over competitive muxes.

These buffered crosspoint switches and muxes are ideal for Pro-AV routing applications that require efficient, reliable switching of multiple video sources including composite, component and S-Video. Leveraging ADI’s proprietary Silicon-Germanium process, the single-chip solutions combine a high level of integration, advanced high-speed and low-power architecture on ±5 V supplies and availability over the extended industrial temperature range of –40 degrees to +85 degrees Celsius, simplifying board layout, increasing functionality and reducing bill-of-materials (BOM).

As part of a complete solution, these switches operate with Analog Devices’ family of high-speed video amplifiers including the AD8003 triple high-speed, current feedback amplifier.
