Electronic Specifier takes a look at the top 5 micro products to have been released in November 2024.

Applications processors deliver secure connectivity

NXP Semiconductors has released the i.MX 94 family, the newest addition to its i.MX 9 series of applications processors, designed for industrial control, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), telematics, industrial and automotive gateways, and building and energy control.

Secure, real-time communication is essential for both industrial and automotive applications. Increasingly complex industrial environments rely on a wide variety of communications protocols, requiring an intelligent TSN switch to manage real-time communication and control needs. (Read more.)

New TI MCUs enable Edge AI

Texas Instruments (TI) introduced two new series of real-time microcontrollers that deliver advancements to help engineers achieve more intelligent and secure processing in automotive and industrial applications.

TI’s TMS320F28P55x series of C2000 MCUs is the industry's first portfolio of real-time microcontrollers with an integrated neural processing unit (NPU), enabling fault detections with high accuracy and low latency. The F29H85x series is built on TI’s new 64-bit C29 digital signal processor core and offers an advanced architecture with integrated safety and security features. TI will display both devices at electronica 2024, Nov. 12-15, in Munich, Germany. Advanced integration for EV E-Axles

Renesas Electronics announced the world's first ‘8-in-1’ proof of concept (PoC) for E-Axle systems for electric vehicles (EV), which controls eight functions using a single microcontroller (MCU).

Developed in collaboration with Nidec Corporation, this PoC integrates a motor, a gear (reduction gear), an inverter, a DC/DC converter, and an on-board battery charger (OBC). System-level testing was also completed to ensure its performance. Renesas will showcase a live demonstration of the new E-Axle design at electronica 2024 in Munich, Germany, November 12-15 (Hall B4, Stand 179). (Read more.)

STMicroelectronics announces availability of wireless microcontrollers

STMicroelectronics has announced general availability of STM32WL33 wireless microcontrollers (MCUs), integrating its latest-generation sub-GHz long-range radio, Arm Cortex-M0+ core, tailored peripherals for smart-metering applications, and power-saving enhancements.

The new MCUs greatly simplify the design of wireless solutions, reduce time-to-market, and prolong battery life. (Read more.)
