High-Performance 16-bit Microcontroller and DSC Families from Microchip
Microchip has announced two high-performance (40MIPS), low pin count (18- and 28-pin) 16-bit product families – the PIC24HJ12GP family of microcontrollers and the dsPIC33FJ12GP family of Digital Signal Controllers. Both families feature Peripheral Pin Select capability, which allows designers to re-map digital I/O – allowing designers to use smaller pin count devices, minimise board space, and optimise board layout to reduce noise.

Ramtron International has launched the VRS51L3174, an 8051-based microcontroller with 8 kilobytes (KB) of non-volatile FRAM memory that drops into industry standard 44-pin QFP sockets for easy device migration. Ramtron has added FRAM to its fast and flexible Versa 8051s for a quick and reliable non-volatile data storage and processing system that, the company says, only a FRAM-Enhanced MCU can provide.

Renesas extends its M16C platform
Renesas Technology Europe has announced 12 different M16C/64 group models and 20 different M16C/65 group models for car audio, home audio, and similar consumer products as well as industrial applications, as additions to the M16C Platform microcontroller1 lineup. Sample shipments will begin in July 2007 for the M16C/64 group and at the end of 2007 for the M16C/65 group.
