SEGGER simplifies rapid production programming of SD cards and eMMC
SEGGER's FAT Image Creator is a utility designed for preparing a FAT file system, optimised for the swift programming of embedded or removable media in a production setting.
This utility efficiently creates a complete file system, focusing on minimising image sizes. By storing only essential data in the image, it significantly reduces the time required for production programming. For instance, a typical image of around 20 MB can be programmed in just a few seconds.
Dirk Akemann, Marketing Manager at SEGGER, explains the benefits: “The FAT Image Creator streamlines the programming process for eMMC and other storage cards. Using a single file that encompasses multiple files and the directory structure simplifies production to one write operation. This approach not only reduces error risks but also enhances programming speed considerably.”
As a command-line tool, the FAT Image Creator seamlessly integrates into Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes, eliminating the need for human intervention and enabling the automatic creation of updated production images.
The tool offers flexibility, allowing for the addition of files as required and the easy creation of directories. Users have the option to create either a complete image (BIN file) or a condensed image containing only relevant sectors (Motorola S-record or MOT format).
The FAT Image Creator is available as an executable for Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems, catering to a wide range of users and production environments.
