Bertrand Moussel (Valid) has been re-elected as Chair of the Trusted Connectivity Alliance (TCA), while Cyril Caillaud (NXP Semiconductors) has also been re-elected to the rotating Board seat.

They will join Benoît Collier (IDEMIA), Claus Dietze (Giesecke+Devrient), Guido Abate (ST), and Oyvind Rastad (Thales) to form the Board for 2024/25. The organisation’s focus will be on advancing eSIM interoperability, a crucial area amid increasing global momentum for the technology.

TCA’s recent market data revealed a significant rise in consumer adoption of eSIM technology in 2023, with eSIM profile downloads increasing by 109% compared to the previous year. Growth is expected to accelerate with the introduction of eSIM-only smartphones in more regions, a wider range of eSIM-enabled devices, and the resurgence of international travel.

Efforts to standardise eSIM technology, such as the GSMA’s eSIM IoT Specifications (SGP.32), are also expected to drive further adoption. These specifications introduce features designed to address specific IoT requirements, enabling the remote provisioning and management of constrained IoT devices on a massive scale. This creates new opportunities for stakeholders across the secure connectivity ecosystem to leverage eSIM technology in both established and emerging IoT sectors.

Commenting on the industry’s progress, Moussel stated: "The sustained growth of the eSIM ecosystem is testament to an industry-wide commitment to promoting trust, consistency, and simplicity. The release of SGP.32 is the latest example of this collaboration and marks a significant milestone, promising to accelerate the adoption of eSIM technology across the globe.

"As the first SGP.32-compliant solutions begin to enter the market, TCA is committed to ensuring these deployments are built on a solid foundation of interoperability and security. Continued industry engagement will be key to supporting the ongoing development and refinement of enabling specifications and testing processes."

To further support the industry as eSIM adoption grows, TCA has published a white paper titled Realising the Benefits of SGP.32. The paper delves into the drivers, implications, and applications of the new specification, aiming to enhance understanding across the industry.
