Continued proliferation of IoT connected devices – in the home, office and factory – means that networked equipment needs to be space saving as well as efficient and reliable.

In response, Mornsun has developed the LSxx-K3Bxx series of compact AC-DC converters, available now from Relec Electronics.

To meet the space constraints of ever-smaller networked equipment, the LSxx-K3Bxx series are ideal for integration into cost sensitive consumer products with little available space. The 1W to 5W, non-isolated AC-DC converters have dimensions of just 16.13 x 15.1 x 9.5mm. Despite their size, the high-density converters have a wide input range of 85 to 305Vac/70 to 430Vdc. No-load power consumption is just 0.1W.

There are three models in the series, the LS01 K3 Series (5V/1W output), LS03 K3 Series (12V/3W) and the LS05 K3 Series (12V, 15V and 18Vdc/5W output).

All are non-isolated, making them ideal for applications such as simple motors, relays, and microcontrollers in smart home or IoT products where the casing or enclosure provides the main safety barrier from the incoming mains supply. The absence of an isolation transformer – one of the more expensive items in an AC-DC converter and low power devices – results in up to 50% cost savings, in comparison to isolated power supplies. Other benefits are a reduction in size and weight. the cost is disproportionately high.

The industrial-grade design of the LSxx-K3Bxx allows for additional EMC circuits, if required. The AC-DC converter series is designed to simplify customer PCB layout.

The high-quality devices operate across a wide temperature range of -40 to +85°C. They feature short circuit and over-circuit protection and are EN/UKCA 62368 safety approved.

Mornsun’s LSxxK3Bxx series is available from Relec Electronics on short lead-times of six to eight weeks. Pricing starting at $1.00 for a 1W device.
