STMicroelectronics has launched the ST4SIM-300, the first embedded SIM (eSIM) in the industry to comply with the upcoming GSMA standard for eSIM IoT deployment, known as SGP.32.

This new standard introduces features specifically designed to enhance the management of IoT devices on cellular networks.

“Leveraging the incoming GSMA specification, our embedded SIM for IoT solution, ST4SIM-300, enhances flexibility, eases network provider switching, and simplifies managing large numbers of connected devices,” said Agostino Vanore, Edge Authentication and M2M Cellular Marketing Manager at STMicroelectronics. “In a more connected and secured world, it will enable seamlessly track assets across the globe, connect smart devices to the Cloud, and securely handle data from billions of devices, supporting our healthcare and smart infrastructures, cities, factories, and homes.”

Unlike existing eSIM specifications for machine-to-machine (M2M) and consumer applications, the SGP.32 standard addresses the unique requirements of modern IoT deployments. The ST4SIM-300 eSIM offers advanced features such as enhanced automation of remote SIM provisioning (RSP), simplified management of SIM profiles for large device fleets, and the ability to switch network providers remotely without needing to swap physical SIM cards. It is also compatible with the latest 5G standard, making it suitable for devices with limited user interfaces and those operating on low-power wide-area networks (LPWAN).

STMicroelectronics is currently sampling the ST4SIM-300 eSIMs in various form factors, including wafer-level chip-scale packages (WLCSP). These are ideal for use in smart meters, GPS trackers, asset monitors, remote sensors, medical wearables, and similar devices.

The ST4SIM-300 is built on an EAL6+ certified ST secure microcontroller, ensuring robust security from the ground up. It is compatible with the GSMA IoT SAFE applet, facilitating the integration of secure element features for end-to-end communication and supporting scalable security for IoT device manufacturers.
